India Dispatches Trade Delegation to U.S. Amid Rising Tariff Risks

A high‑level Indian trade delegation is set to visit the United States later this month to press for resolution on lingering tariff concerns, including duties on auto parts, steel, and agricultural goods. These discussions aim to ensure India remains exempted from upcoming reciprocal tariffs and to lay groundwork for more comprehensive trade frameworks.

India is said to be emphasizing a firm stance on protecting its dairy and agriculture sectors while pressing for preferential access over competing nations. Following a recent U.S. move to single out Brazil and others with significant tariff proposals, India’s delegation wants clarity on market access and tariff relief before sanctions take effect.

If these talks yield positive outcomes, they could instill confidence in India’s export sectors and support both foreign investment and capital flows. Conversely, failure to reach accommodation could prompt broader retaliation, including possible moves at the WTO, and place fresh pressure on the rupee and export-oriented industries.
