L&T Clinches Major EPC Contract in Rajasthan Mineral Expansion

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced a landmark engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract awarded by Hindustan Zinc to build a new leaching, purification, and cellhouse facility for producing high-grade zinc cathodes. This large-scale project, located in Rajasthan, aligns with India’s expanding minerals and metals production ambitions. The 250 kiloton per annum facility, complemented by a 125 KTPA Jarosite Circuit, will showcase cutting-edge metallurgical technology and provide supply chain advantages domestically.

This contract reflects L&T’s leadership in industrial infrastructure delivery and the mining sector’s growing emphasis on value addition and operational efficiency. Hindustan Zinc’s facility is expected to enhance the country’s capacity to produce special high-grade zinc, a critical input in galvanizing and alloy applications. The project is also seen as a step toward import substitution and strengthening India’s position in the global metals supply chain. The collaboration underscores the synergies between India’s core industries and large infrastructure firms in advancing resource development and downstream manufacturing.

The undertaking bodes well for L&T’s Minerals & Metals vertical and reinforces medium-term order book visibility. The initiative could further induce ancillary investments and employment in the region, contributing to a robust industrial ecosystem. Investors and market watchers view this development as a positive signal for capital-intensive engineering companies riding the growth momentum in natural resource sectors.
